The Marcelle et Jean Coutu Residence
Located in the Centre Sud neighbourhood, just steps from La Fontaine Park and NotreDame Hospital, the Marcelle and Jean Coutu Residence offer safe, affordable housing for autonomous women who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of it. Created through a partnership with the Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal (SHDM), this permanent residence features 26 furnished studio apartments, each with its own kitchen, bathroom, and private living space.

Personalized support
In addition to stable housing, residents benefit from individualized support provided by a team of on-site caseworkers. Chez Doris offers daily assistance designed to promote housing stability, autonomy, and overall well-being. The building also includes several shared spaces: a community room to encourage connection, a computer room, a laundry room, storage and bike spaces, as well as a large backyard terrace. These spaces foster socialization, learning, and mutual support among residents.

Hope lives here: Our accessible housing model
Thanks to subsidies from the Montreal Housing Office, many women are able to live here while spending no more than 25% of their income on rent. This housing model enables residents to put down roots in a peaceful environment while accessing resources to rebuild their lives and regain confidence.
A dignified home is more than just a roof—it’s an essential step toward a calmer, more secure future.

A roof over my head means peace of mind
Thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Marcelle Coutu, this residence offers 26 studio apartments to women living in precarity or at risk of homelessness. Her support has made it possible to create a stable, safe, and dignified environment where women can rebuild their lives. It is a gesture of hope that will transform lives for years to come.
