Chez Doris announces the resumption of 24/7 frontline services Just in time for winter

Published on December 12, 2024

Montreal, December 12th, 2024 — Chez Doris is pleased to announce that, thanks to meticulous planning and dedicated teamwork, the organization has successfully resumed its full range of frontline services less than a year after having to scale them back. Chez Doris now offers a safe haven where vulnerable or homeless women can find help and comfort without judgment, around the clock, seven days a week.

Since November 11, the Chez Doris day centre has extended its hours to welcome women in the evenings, complementing its daytime services and overnight shelter. With the full reopening of these services, women now have access to three meals a day. Since resuming operations, Chez Doris has served more than 1,000 dinners and plans to provide more than 40,000 meals in 2025.

“We are immensely proud of having successfully reorganized our activities in under a year, enabling us to offer continuous access to our emergency services. This increased level of service ensures comprehensive care and optimal support for our clients. We are particularly committed to providing a safe and welcoming place for our women at all times, especially during the coldest period of the year,”
said Diane Pilote, Executive Director of Chez Doris.

Unwavering Support for Vulnerable Women
The Chez Doris team works tirelessly to strengthen and expand its services to meet the growing needs of our clients, especially with the renovation of the Fulford Residence and the establishment of a new residence on Saint-Hubert Street. Our mission is more relevant than ever, and the staunch support we receive from our community, partners and generous donors remains essential to empower and support women in precarious situations.

Lest we forget:
November 3rd, 2024 marked the 50th anniversary of the tragic death of Doris Toussaint, whose story inspired the founding of our organization. Doris escaped a violent situation in Halifax, dreaming of a safe haven where she could rebuild her life away from scrutiny and judgment. Fifty years later, violence against women remains a pressing social issue. The mission of Chez Doris—to provide shelter and support—is more vital than ever, and the
continued financial support from our donors is crucial to making a lasting impact.
