Traditional activities

We recognize the vital role of cultural touchstones and traditions in the journeys of Indigenous women.
That’s why we provide spaces for sharing, expression, and creation—places enriched by culture and traditional knowledge, where connections can flourish.

Food, culture, and community

Since food is a cornerstone of cultural identity, our Indigenous collective kitchens provide a welcoming space where women can gather, share meals and celebrate their culinary traditions. Every week highlights a different Indigenous culture—including Inuit, Métis and Mohawk—through the preparation and enjoyment of traditional dishes such as bannock, Arctic char or caribou stew. This initiative strengthens community and cultural connections, while fostering a deep sense of pride and belonging.

Workshops rooted in tradition

To promote well-being and strengthen cultural ties, we offer weekly sociocultural activities focused on the arts and traditional crafts. These include soapstone carving, beading, sewing and other heritage practices. Such hands-on activities allow women to reconnect with their roots while developing valuable skills. They provide a creative and therapeutic space that fosters solidary and cohesion among participants, while supporting the transmission of cultural traditions.

Empowered growth, rooted in identity

By offering culturally adapted services, the Indigenous Program at Chez Doris provides Indigenous women with the support and sense of belonging they need to thrive. We recognize the importance of promoting their cultural heritage as we pursue our mission of supporting Indigenous women on their journey to autonomy, so they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
